My First Visit to Fan Nedd

It has been a very busy time recently with continuing sorting out my Uncle’s estate, an exhibition, fulfilling orders from my website and my sister’s wedding in France. It means that I haven’t been able to get out since April to take any new photos, but this week I have finally been out – not once, but twice with a possible third time this evening! Pen y Fan Massif

With the forecast saying valley mist, I decided to walk to the ridge by Corn Du for sunrise. I started walking from the Storey Arms at 6:30am and arrived on the ridge at 7:30am. Sunrise itself wasn’t anything special, but I stayed on the ridge for 2.5 hours to see how the weather would pan out. During that time, a hundred or so army personnel were walking to Pen y Fan, presumably doing the dreaded ……

I find that there’s always a lot of procrastination that goes with photography. Shall I go out this evening? Shall I stay in with the family? What if the light is really good? What if it’s just cloudy? What if the forecast is wrong? (It normally is!) What if it’s a wasted trip? What if tonight is the night I take my best photo ever? Pen Allt-mawr from Pen Cerrig-calch

On Monday I went for a walk near Crickhowell to explore new territory. The weather a overcast with sunny spells and warm without too much wind, which made a nice change. I took several photos but this panorama is the only one that really worked. You can click on it to view a larger version.

Panorama of Mewslade Bay on Gower

After seeing sunrise at Fall Bay, I walked on to Mewslade Bay. This was a far more challenging panorama to shoot as the waves were coming in quicky and it’s easy to get the waves split between frames so they don’t stitch very well. I took several to make sure I got it right – I filled a 2Gb flash card in four minutes! You can click on the image to see it large…
