Mumbles, Daffodils, Blackpill and Sunrise

On Saturday, I ran a Five Beaches of Gower Workshop and on the way I drove past Blackpill and West Cross. I noticed the daffodils were looking really nice, so yesterday morning I got up at 5:30am and left the house at 6am. I was really after the post-sunrise light, so waited until the sun had risen. Using my newly purchased 24mm tilt/shift lens, I was able to get very close to the daffodils whilst ……

Bracelet Bay

Last weekend, I took the family to Bracelet Bay to have a play on the beach – it was absolutely freezing and, contrary to the Met Office forecast who said clear skies, it was rather cloudy. However, the sky look stunning especially for mid-morning. I had my camera with me, of course, and took a few photos.

Swansea Bay

Mumbles in the Snow

Over the last couple of days we’ve had over 7 inches (18cm) of snow fall! The road we live on, at the top of a hill, never gets gritted so I took a gamble and braved the roads this morning. Oystermouth Castle

Following on from my trip to Mumbles last Tuesday, I then stopped off at Oystermouth Castle to take some photos. I was pleasantly surprised to have the park to myself, but then realised it was 6:20am! The light was rather nice, if a little diffused but I came away happy with what I got.

Mumbles Pier and Lighthouse

Last Tuesday morning, I set the alarm for 4am. That’s the trouble with summer – the sun rises so early! 5:09am so the BBC Weather site told me. Add in time to get dressed and have something quick to eat, then drive there, walk to the location, set up and finally be ready to take the photo. I was only standing around for about 10 minutes before the sun rose. And sometimes the sky before ……

Bracelet Bay and Mumbles Lighthouse

This morning I went out for sunrise for the first time in a while. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky, which meant the sunrise had the potential to be fairly mundane. However, I recently bought a new 10 stop ND filter which reduces the amount of light that goes into the lens by 10 stops. It means that an exposure that would normally be 1/60s becomes somewhere around 30 seconds. Here are the results ……
