Llyn y Fan Fawr in the Snow

Llyn y Fan Fawr and Fan Brycheiniog

With fresh snow fallen, we decided it was definitely time to visit Llyn y Fan Fawr. It is one of our favourite areas of the Brecon Beacons and far away from the hoards of people who head up to Pen y Fan – don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame them. After all, two days ago we went up to Pen y Fan and thoroughly enjoyed it. Mountains to me are about solitude and peace, ……

Llyn y Fan Fawr with Gemini, Auriga and Perseus

Llyn y Fan Fawr with Gemini, Auriga and Perseus

Last week, I spent a few hours in very hostile conditions on the Carmarthen Fan – see this blog post. After I came down from the summit of Fan Brycheiniog, I spent 1.5 hours by the lake working on various compositions. By midnight, I was getting rather tired so decided that it was time to walk back to the car. There was snow on the shore of the lake, although the lake wasn’t frozen. Every ……

The Carmarthen Fan in Terrible Weather

Eager to go, we didn’t let the forecast put us off… We were almost blown over, we got rained on, we got soaked and we got blown about some more – it was some of the worst weather I’ve been out in. The weather did let up briefly, although my tripod did try to attack Emma when the wind blew it over ……

Carmarthen Fan Sunset Shoot

Yesterday, I decided it was time to try a sunset on the Carmarthen Fan in the Brecon Beacons. I left the house at 6pm, drove there and walked up the 615 metres to Fan Brycheiniog. I stopped there for a while and shot a panorama overlooking the lake with Pen y Fan in the background. Click on it to see the large version.

Llyn y Fan Fawr Sunrise

On Monday evening I checked the weather forecast and it looked good. The BBC cloud cover prediction was showing 0% cloud cover and the Met Office mountain forecast for the Brecon Beacons was showing a low chance of mist on the peaks but otherwise clear. My plan was to climb to the top of Fan Brycheiniog and look down onto Llyn y Fan Fawr for sunrise. I set the alarm for 4am and started walking ……

The Carmarthen Fan in the Brecon Beacons

Last Friday I went for a walk to capture a photo of Llyn y Fan Fach on the Carmarthen Fan in the Brecon Beacons. Unfortunately, the weather was very hazy so it was so good but I did capture a couple of photos on the way that I am happy with!

Happy New Year and No VAT

Happy New Year to everyone! Hope you all had a good Christmas break. Everyone in the UK will be aware that the VAT rate went up today. You’ll be pleased to know that as I’m not VAT registered, I don’t charge VAT so my prices won’t be going up :-) I will pay more to various suppliers but I shall absorb those costs myself as they’re pretty minimal. My new 100x40cm panorama framed photos I ……
