Four Beaches in One Day

Caswell Bay

It was without any planning or warning that we took the day off work yesterday. Well, I say day off, we took the day off from work to work. Instead of opening the shop, we drove down to Oxwich Bay – Oxwich is a difficult beach to photograph and one we get asked for all the time so we decided to see what we could do. With the sun peaking out from behind the clouds, ……

An Early Start at Langland Bay

Langland Bay

I set the alarm for 4:30am this morning and headed down to Langland Bay for sunrise. It was pretty cloudy and I didn’t hold much hope out, but about 20 mins after sunrise (I didn’t see the sun) the sky lit up and a few minutes. I took several shots trying to get the wave just right, a sort of hit and miss affair.

Caswell Bay and Langland Bay at night

Caswell Bay with Polaris, Cassiopeia and Cepheus

Yesterday, the alarm went off at 4am. I dragged myself from the warm bed and drove out to Gower with the purpose of photographing Langland Bay and Caswell Bay at night. At Langland, I walked down to the beach and tried a photo looking back to the huts, but it was too bright with light pollution. Langland Bay

At the beginning of the month, I set the alarm early and headed out to Langland Bay for sunrise. The position of the sun meant I couldn’t go for the angle I wanted, so instead I headed out to Snaple Point. There was a smattering of sea thrift around, but not swathes of it unfortunately. I used my wide angle lens to include the beach huts, the sea thrift and the sun.

Langland Bay and Caswell Bay

With the weather being mostly pouring rain this week, I headed out on the only good half day that was forecast and was joined by Paula and Piran. We parked at Langland Bay and walked to Caswell Bay, stopping to take photos along the way. We even discovered a new path that took us above Caswell Bay so we could look down on the beach! I’ve always struggled to get a good photo of Caswell ……

Langland Bay Panorama

With the prospect of heavy rain all week next week, I made sure I went out this morning to take advantage of sunrise. The tide was perfect for Langland Bay, so I got there at 7:25am, found my location and stood drinking coffee and watching the sea getting ever closer to cutting me off. I had to wait a little longer due to a cloud bank obscuring the rising sun which meant I had to ……

Langland Bay

I recently discovered that there is a higher viewpoint of Langland Bay than I normally use when shooting sunrise there so I nipped out this morning to have a go.

Langland Bay, Gower

Before I went back home, I went down to the water’s edge and took a photo with my 10 stop ND filter to see how it looked with a 6 minute exposure.

Langland Bay with 10 stop ND ……
