The Shot I’ve Been After!

With the forecast of imminent snow, I decided to have another go at the sunset shot I wanted of the Pen y Fan Massif – I didn’t want a winter scene with snow… With -4 degrees C forecast at 800m, I knew it was going to be cold. On the way I had to go through a few streams – the backs of my trousers froze solid by the time I got back to the ……

Alive in the Brecons

It’s below zero and is windy; the sun has set and it’s getting dark; it’s an hour’s walk to the car; I’m at 720m asl in the Brecon Beacons; I’m wearing thermals, base layer, 2 micro fleeces, fleece coat and waterproof/windproof coat to keep warm; it starts snowing. That sort of thing can make you feel really alive, in touch with the landscape around you and is exactly where I was lucky enough to be ……

Sunset on the Pen y Fan Massif

Last night, I decided to head out to the Brecon Beacons to see what sunset would offer. It took me just under an hour’s walking to reach the spot I wanted. I quickly put a couple of fleeces on as it was so cold, set up the tripod and camera and shot a couple of panoramas – I’ve been trying to get a good panorama from this spot for a while. After the 2 panoramas, ……

Sunset on Cribyn

On the 31st of July 2007, I drove to Lower Neuadd Reservoir and walked up to Cribyn for sunset. Occasionally, I tend to build up a bit of a back log of photos to process. For some reason, this trip was one of those that ended up in the back log. I’d processed a couple, but that was as far as I got until now. I suspect these really should have been with the Photolibrary ……

Pen y Fan Massif at Sunset!

I spent yesterday in the Brecon Beacons. I had planned on viewing Pen y Fan from Pentwyn Reservoir, but had to turn round at Pontsticill as it was too snowy and despite having 4 brand new tyres, it wasn’t worth attempting the hills. Plus I was obviously annoying people in their Chelsea Taxis as they kept tailgating me on the snow – this is perhaps the only time in recent years that having a big ……

Pen y Fan Panorama

This is the image I went to take on New Years Day. It’s 15 photos stitched to make a panorama that’s almost a 180 degree view. The native size of the image is over 27,000 pixels wide or just over 2.3 metres long! It’s full of detail…

Focus on Imaging 2009

Yesterday I drove to the NEC in Birmingham for the Focus on Imaging show, all about cameras and associated things like printing, etc. I had a very nice demonstration by Longridge mount cutting people (FrameCo who I currently use have pulled out of the UK) and I am looking to perhaps buy one of their cutters as it will reduce my mount cutting time by 75% at least! I have a lot of mount cutting ……
