Caswell Bay in the Early Hours

Caswell Bay with Airglow

After my visit to Three Cliffs Bay, I wasn’t ready to head home yet so I thought about where I could go next. It was around 1am and I was starting to get tired so Caswell Bay was the obvious place as I didn’t have to walk far from the car. I parked the car in the very empty car park and nipped up on to the coast path. I took a few shots and ……

An Amazing Night at Three Cliffs

Three Cliffs Bay with Sirius and Airglow

Last night I had an Astrophotography Workshop at Three Cliffs Bay. After almost cancelling because it was cloudy and raining when we met, we spent a good few hours out on the cliffs taking photos before going back to the cars. When my client had left, I walked all the way back out to the cliffs by myself. Half way, it started raining again and I almost turned around and headed back to the car, ……

A Quick Trip to The Black Mountains

Llangorse Lake and Pen y Fan from Mynydd Llangorse

We finally had some spare time and the weather forecast was good so we jumped into the car and headed east to Mynydd Llangorse. We climbed part of the hill in the diffuse sunlight, keeping an eye on the band of clear sky that we knew would give us beautiful side lighting. We sat on the side of the hill with bilberries staining our clothes and flies that were a cross between a flying ant ……

A couple of days ago I had an email to tell me my short-listed photo had been commended by the judges and had won a ……

Broad Pool, the Moon and the Milky Way

Broad Pool, the Moon and the Milky Way

Earlier this week, my new Canon 6D arrived – I decided to swap from the 5DMkII to the 6D for its superior noise at ISO6400 as I am doing more and more astrophotography. The forecast was for clear skies last night so I headed out to Broad Pool on Gower. I knew the moon would be out, but that was fine as you can still shoot astrophotos with the moon in the sky. I spent ……

Moonrise in the Brecon Beacons

Moonrise with Fan y Big and Brecon

I have seen countless sunrises (and sunsets) but I have never witnessed a ‘moonrise’. I knew the moon would be coming out so was expecting it, but what I wasn’t expecting is how it felt. The moon is typically white in the sky so that was I was expecting. I was shooting photos of Pen y Fan when I glanced across and say a bright ball just peak above the horizon. It’s difficult to explain, ……
