Llyn y Fan Fawr Sunrise

On Monday evening I checked the weather forecast and it looked good. The BBC cloud cover prediction was showing 0% cloud cover and the Met Office mountain forecast for the Brecon Beacons was showing a low chance of mist on the peaks but otherwise clear. My plan was to climb to the top of Fan Brycheiniog and look down onto Llyn y Fan Fawr for sunrise. I set the alarm for 4am and started walking at 5am, crossing the source of the Tawe in the pitch black. As it get lighter, the amount of cloud cover become obvious. I reached Llyn y Fan Fawr 40 minutes after leaving the car and saw the peak was covered in cloud as was much of the sky. There was also a strong, bitter wind. I decided to stay at the lake instead – these are the photos I took.
