Gower, near Swansea in South Wales, was designated Britain's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a relatively small peninsula but packed with stunning scenery from historic Mumbles to the uniquely shaped Worms Head.
The Brecon Beacons in Wales were designated a National Park in 1957, with the high mountains of Pen y Fan and Cribyn to the stunning waterfalls of Blaen-y-glyn and reservoirs such as Talybont and Pontsticill.
Pembrokeshire, home to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, is the only coastal national park in the UK. In addition to the beautiful coastline, it also includes the Preseli Hills which have a unique look to them.
Pontardawe, just a few miles north of Swansea, is in Swansea Valley. It is well known for the Pontardawe Arts Centre. It has a past heavily involved in industry and was home to tin plate works, ceramic works and a coal mine.
Snowdonia National Park in North Wales was designated a National Park in 1951, the third in England and Wales. It covers over 800 square miles with mountains, lakes, castles, waterfalls and is home to Snowdonia, the highest mountain in Wales.
Cornwall and Devon in the south west of England is where I grew up. Saltash in Cornwall is featured as my home town, plus the rugged beauty of Dartmoor, the Cornish coastline and the plentiful prehistoric monuments.
