In Pontardawe in Swansea Valley, there is a lovely riverside walk through Cwm Du Glen alongside the Upper Clydach River. At least, there was until a developer dumped several tonnes of earth and debris onto the footpath rather than clear it away from the site they were working on. The council have been informed and the last we heard were looking into it.

Upper Clydach River in Pontardawe
Cwm Du Glen where the Upper Clydach River has carved a gorge is just minutes from our house. We’ve lived there for 4.5 years and I’ve only just gotten around to photographing these falls and bridge! I would normally have waded into the river to take photos, but the rocks were incredibly slippery and the water a little too fast…

Night Time Photography
It’s been a year and a bit since I last shot some star trails, so I decided to try some more. This time I bought myself a third party timer – I plug it into the camera and tell it I was to take 60 photos that are each 5 minutes long with an interval of 1 second between and let it do its stuff. I then stack the images on the PC using some new software I just bought. Unfortunately, the weather hasn’t been clear since I bought it but I did test it in the back garden. Here is one frame of 5 minutes long:

Brecon Craft Fair
Tomorrow’s Brecon Craft Fair (18th December 2010) has been cancelled so unfortunately I shan’t be there with my stall – the A470 between Merthyr and Brecon is closed so I couldn’t have got there anyway. If anyone’s desperate for any last minute gifts, please let me know and we can see what we can do – if you can get to Swansea then there shouldn’t be a problem. Meanwhile, here’s a photo of Pontardawe from today after 7 inches (18cm of snow)

A Short Walk in Pontardawe
Yesterday, we went for a short walk from the house so I could get the final photo for the Pontardawe 2011 calendar. Even though it was a short walk, it really released the endorphins. It’s a pity we couldn’t do the full walk into town as it was such a nice day, but it was getting towards lunch time.
This is an unusual church in that there appears to be no parish for it – it’s not in a village and there are no houses nearby.
The grass really was this green!

St. Illtyd’s Path
Piran is 4 days old today according to Neath Port Talbot hospital and 5 days old according to Pontardawe midwife – some health authorities count the day of birth as 1 day, some don’t…. Anyway, he is healthy and fine and gaining weight as he should and Paula is doing very, very well too.
I don’t want to go away for too long at the moment, but I did manage to leave the house for 5 minutes today. St. Illtyd’s Pathis a Long Distance Path (LDP) that starts in Pembrey Country Park in Carmarthenshire and finishes in Margam Park in Neath Port Talbot. It is 64 miles in length and passes through Pontardawe. Seeing the bluebells out in force, I jumped the back fence, climbed a short incline and took the following photo:
